It has come to the attention of the Iron County Republican Party that drag events are being hosted and promoted by the Johnson Center in Cedar City.
Adult men dressing as women to act out their sexual desires in a public setting is not an appropriate function of government funds, and inviting vulnerable children to participate in these sexualized fetishes is abuse. Sexual fetishes should not involve children, and should be kept private.
The Johnson Center receives public money through the RAP Tax, which is a local sales tax enacted by the Cedar City Council in 2005. The purpose of the tax is to subsidize some of the costs associated with Recreation, Arts and Parks (thus RAP).
Seeing that RAP Tax funds are now being used for events that directly contradict the family values of our community, the Iron County Republican Party calls for the repeal of Cedar City’s RAP Tax. It is wholly inappropriate for the tax payers of Cedar City to pay for events that degrade our community.
Every candidate currently running for office is duty bound to publicly oppose these efforts.
We call on all citizens of Cedar City and surrounding areas to contact the Cedar City Council members and mayor.
