2024 Nominating Convention1 min read

Nominating Convention to elect the Convention Candidate for the County Commissioner Seat C. Both candidates collected signatures, and will continue to a Primary.

Agenda, Financial Report, and previous Meeting Minutes approved.

275 delegates credentialed.

Richard Genck, County Party Treasurer, gave a report on the cyber attack against the caucus system on Caucus Night. His report from a member of the State Party Executive Committee included the fact that the State load tested to have 300,000 concurrent users all registering at the same time, which is more than the entire state’s usage over the entire night. This level of attack indicates the enemies of the Caucus/Convention System view the Caucus as a legitimate threat, and that they are willing to use underhanded and illegal tactics to undermine the grassroots representative form of electing officers and representatives.

Unopposed candidates were nominated by acclimation.

Marlo Oaks, State Party Treasurer, gave a report on the HB 545, line 121, which would put out a survey to see if the State Treasure and Auditor should be appointed or elected. His report included that those positions are better able to oppose corruption and tyranny in the government if they are elected instead of appointed.

Election results:

  • 199 Kenneth Robinson (72%)
  • 76 Maile Wilson Edwards (28%)

  1. Seems like a complete waste of time and effort to have a delegate vote when that vote is null and void because the candidates collected signatures. Not to mention the complete disregard of the will of the delegation.

    1. Not a complete waste of time, as the Convention Candidate winner(s) are able to use their nomination as an endorsement from the delegates. But you are correct, the signature path does violate the Party’s First Amendment Right to Assemble however we wish, and should be removed so the people of Utah are better represented by those who will do what the voters actually want done.
