This year the Iron County GOP worked with our local representatives to hold a pre-legislation town hall. We heard from Senator Evan Vickers and Representative Albrecht. Representative Shipp was unable to attend due to unexpected family commitments.
Senator Vickers spoke on priorities of expanding energy options, such as new nuclear technology. He also spoke on the importance of water to Iron County. He also spoke on removing taxes on social security. Ho spoke on the budget and cyber security.
Representative Albrecht spoke on modern nuclear power as well. He is running “the first nuclear energy bill in the state of Utah.” His bill will make an “energy board” which will oversee locations and fuel sources. He expects Utah to have a nuclear power plant in 10-15 years. He also spoke on the social security tax cut, and voter security, immigration, and higher education wasting money on useless classes and degrees that don’t train anyone to do anything. He spoke on plans to protect communities against flooding from snow pack and monsoon rains.
Q&A
How can we be involved in the legislative process?
- Track a bill at le.utah.gov to track bills, get alerts, testify for bills online via Zoom, and more.
- Reading bills
- Read the short title of a bill to see what it’s about.
- Read the underline and crossed out parts.
- Contacting urban legislators about rural issues can help them flip in favor of rural voters.
Weekly Zoom meetings will be held by the Iron County GOP on Saturdays.
