The Iron County GOP extends its gratitude to Governor Spencer Cox and Attorney General Sean Reyes for their leadership in challenging federal overreach with the landmark lawsuit against the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) control over unappropriated lands in Utah. This action, questioning the constitutionality of federal control over 18.5 million acres, reflects a strong commitment to state sovereignty and the rights of Utahns to manage their own natural resources. We believe the people of Utah can better manage our lands than unelected bureaucrats 2000 miles away in Washington DC. By addressing this issue, Governor Cox and Attorney General Reyes advocate for the management of public lands in a way that benefits Utah’s economy, recreation, and environment.

We believe this lawsuit is essential for ensuring Utah’s landscapes are accessible and well-managed for all. Federal restrictions have limited effective use of these lands, impacting local economies and recreation. Reclaiming control will allow Utah to protect its natural beauty, promote sustainable land use, and maintain cultural and recreational heritage.

Water is a precious resource, and effective land management is crucial for protecting water supplies, enhancing groundwater recharge, and maintaining ecosystems. Local management also offers opportunities to improve environmental practices, such as water retention and wildfire prevention.
